The acronym H.A.N.D.S. stands for Helping All iN Dedicated Service. At SGA, high school students have the opportunity to be a part of H.A.N.D.S. The H.A.N.D.S. Club is a student led student service organization. Assisting both Southwest Georgia Academy and the surrounding communities, H.A.N.D.S. has been involved with many different events and fundraisers to help many people and groups with various needs over the years. Most recently, H.A.N.D.S. has created a new school event called "Feud for Food" to get the students of SGA excited about and involved in a canned food drive to help those in need during the holiday season. The students in H.A.N.D.S. are required to log 10 hours of volunteer community service to maintain their membership in the club.
The H.A.N.D.S. club was busy this past fall. The club carried on the tradition of being in charge of the grilled corn booth at the annual Fall Festival during October. H.A.N.D.S. members were required to bring different spices to season the corn, along with tinfoil and napkins. During Halloween, the club put on a fundraiser for Cloud Kirbo. Cloud was diagnosed with Krabbe disease soon after he turned three. All students were encouraged to pay one dollar and dress up in their best Halloween costume.
