SGA Welcomes Assistant Principal Jay Winkler

 

Jay Winkler, Blakely native, is joining the Southwest Georgia Academy family. He will be starting his career in Damascus this summer as Assistant Principal. SGA is excited to welcome his experience as an educator, administrator and Godly influence that will impact the Warrior students and families.

Winkler graduated from Early County High School in 1992 followed by an undergraduate degree from Valdosta State University with a Major in Secondary Education and a focus in Field Science. In 1999, he earned his Master’s degree from Troy University and later obtained his Education Specialist degree from VSU in 2017. 

Overall, Winkler has taught High School Science for 18 years and was an Assistant Principal at Early County High School for 6 years. He will close the 2020-2021 school year as the Principal of Seminole County Elementary. In addition to his classroom experience, Winkler has coached cross country, football, and track and field. 

Winkler has been married to Margaret Scarborough Winkler for 26 years; together, they have three sons Will, Austin, and Andrew.  They live on their family farm in Miller County. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing.
