Middle School Spelling Bee

Southwest Georgia Academy participates in the Scripps' National Spelling Bee for grades 4-8. This competition allows students an opportunity to exhibit their proficiency in the art of spelling. Each homeroom holds a classroom spelling bee in the fall of the year. The top 2 winners from each grade level participate in the SGA Middle School Spelling Bee held at SGA in the winter. Successful participants in the SGA Spelling Bee advance to the GISA District Competition held at Deerfield-Windsor in February. District winners and runners-up compete in the State Spelling Bee during March with the winner advancing to the Scripps National Spelling Bee held each summer in Washington, D.C. which is televised live on ESPN.
